Lady In Satin
A hand-picked 28-piece orchestra performs the whole of Billie Holiday’s iconic final album Lady in Satin. A dark, brooding yet beautiful collection of torch songs, Lady In Satin was released in 1959 shortly before her tragic passing. The sumptuous arrangements, written by Ray Ellis, have been lovingly transcribed by Ian Bateman and the orchestra consists of a host of UK jazz greats alongside a hand-picked string section.
The debut concert was performed at Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival on 23rd March 2019 in the wonderful setting of St Georges concert hall. It was sold out and made jazz history, being the first ever live performance of this classic album.
